The short version
A static QR code contains the final content itself: a link, Wi-Fi credentials, a contact card. A dynamic QR code contains a short DynamiHost link, and that link forwards the scanner to a destination you control. That single difference decides everything else: editing, tracking, quotas and price.
Static codes
- The content is baked into the printed image. It can never change, and scans are never recorded, because nothing passes through DynamiHost when someone scans.
- You generate them in the dashboard under QR Codes > Static QR. The code is rendered in your browser.
- Creations count against your plan: the first download (or the first save) of a new design counts once for that month. Downloading the same design again, in any format, does not count again.
- On paid plans you can also save codes to your library with the Save to library button. The library has its own plan limit, separate from the monthly creation count, and your saved codes live in QR Codes, on the Static tab.
- Exports on the Trial plan carry a small DynamiHost badge in the centre. Paid plans export with no badge and can place their own logo there instead.
Dynamic codes
- The printed image points at a short link (on DynamiHost, or on your own custom domain). You can change the destination at any time without reprinting.
- Every scan is recorded, so you get analytics: counts, locations, devices and times.
- Dynamic codes count against your plan's code limit, and scans count against the monthly scan quota.
- You can also schedule, password-protect, disable and smart-route dynamic codes, depending on your plan.
Which should you print?
Print dynamic codes for anything public or long-lived: menus, packaging, posters, product labels. Use static codes for fixed, private content that never needs tracking, like a Wi-Fi password at home or in the office.
