IFTTT ("if this, then that") is a simple automation service aimed at personal applets and smart home actions. The connection from DynamiHost is one webhook: DynamiHost sends the scan.created event to IFTTT every time one of your dynamic codes is scanned, and your applet takes it from there.
What you need
- A DynamiHost plan with webhooks: Trial, Pro or Business. If the Webhooks page in your dashboard shows a locked message, your plan does not include webhooks yet.
- An IFTTT account.
Step 1: Get a webhook URL from IFTTT
- In IFTTT, create a new applet and choose Webhooks as the "if this" service.
- Pick Receive a web request and give the event a name, for example
dhscan. - Open the Webhooks service settings in IFTTT: it shows your personal key. Your trigger URL is built from the event name and that key, in the form shown in the Webhooks documentation there. Copy it.
Keep the key private: anyone who has the full URL can fire your applet.
Step 2: Add the URL in DynamiHost
- Open Webhooks in the dashboard and click Add endpoint.
- Paste the URL you built in IFTTT and select the scan.created event.
- Save the endpoint. IFTTT cannot check DynamiHost's signature header, so the signing secret is not used on this platform.
Step 3: Test the connection
On the Webhooks page, click Send test on your new endpoint. The applet's activity in IFTTT shows the run. Then scan one of your codes with your phone and watch the real event follow.
What arrives, and one limit
Every delivery is the scan.created event: the code's id, short code and name, the scan time, and, when known, the country, city, device, operating system, browser and referrer. IFTTT passes up to three values from a webhook request on to your applet's actions, so it suits simple alerts better than data logging: the applet fires on every scan, but it cannot file the full payload away. If you need the complete event in a spreadsheet or CRM, use one of the other platforms in this category and let IFTTT handle the alert. The full payload format, retries and the automatic disable rule are covered in Webhooks: get notified on every scan in this help centre.
Automation ideas
- Get a phone notification the moment a code is scanned.
- Flash a smart light or switch a smart plug when a scan arrives.
- Log a simple line to a note or send yourself an email per scan.
