A static QR code bakes the final destination into the printed image. Once it is printed, the destination is fixed forever.
A DynamiHost dynamic code works differently:
- The printed image encodes a short link on DynamiHost (or on your own custom domain).
- When someone scans it, their phone opens that short link.
- DynamiHost checks the code's current settings (destination, schedule, password, routing rules) and forwards the scanner on.
- The scan is recorded for your analytics.
Because the destination lives on the server and not in the image, you can:
- Fix a typo or swap a menu, PDF or landing page without reprinting.
- Run a campaign, then point the same printed code at the next one.
- Turn a code off, schedule it to start later, or protect it with a password.
- Route scanners differently by device, country, language or time of day if your plan includes smart rules.
The trade-off to know: a dynamic code needs the short link to stay live. If a code is deleted, its plan lapses, or a custom domain stops pointing at DynamiHost, scans of the printed code will no longer reach a destination.
